We believe that a young woman's ability to bond with her peers while growing into
her own person is essential. Hewitt students participate in activities that encourage
creativity, teamwork, maturity and leadership. All
these are valuable lessons taught outside the constraints of a formal classroom
setting. Many activities occur on a school-wide basis while others are developed
for the appropriate grade level of the student. School-wide activities include
a Holiday Concert in December, community service projects, and Student Council.
An array of grade-appropriate after-school clubs like the Photo Club, Model U.N., Latin Club, Art Club and Science Olympiad keep our students' minds working well
after the school bell rings.
Activities designed for and performed by the students at Hewitt are
intended to display and reinforce the leadership and maturity they continue to learn.
The older students are role models to the younger students, and frequently act as the face of
the Hewitt School to prospective students and parents, as well as the local
community.
Upper School students design and write The Venturer, our award-winning literary
magazine, and the Hewitt Times, our school newspaper. They are responsible for
our yearbook, Argosy, and our photography journal Perspicacity. Additional
Upper School activities such as Student Council,
drama productions and the Hewitt Tour Guide program allow these young women to
have fun while putting their education in front of a larger audience. These are
unique life experiences that will stay with them forever.
Matching the unique challenges of the middle years, Middle School students have
their own activities, as well as programs with the Upper and Lower Schools.
Middle School artists and writers even have their own publication, The
Enterprise, to showcase their talents. Additionally, clubs in art, drama, chorus and
foreign language allow these young women between grades 4 and 8 to show
off their abilities as they learn them.
Kindergarten through Grade 3 offer their own set of activities designed to help
students learn about the world around them while working together.
Student-written and performed drama productions test their creativity and
ability to showcase their talents at a young age. Lower school gathers together weekly for celebrations of student work, community service efforts and holidays around the world. Additionally, several events occur throughout the year joining the lower school with middle and upper schools so our community is close-knit and safe to all.
