  • HAWKS WEEKLY UPDATE: Week of May 16

    Varsity Badminton Congratulations to the Varsity Badminton team for placing 3rd in the AAIS conference.  Best of luck to seniors: Samantha H.‘16, Mariana G.’16, Madeline W.’16 and Jadeen S.’16.  Great job to the entire team on a terrific season!
    Varsity Track & Field season has been great, while the athletes have two meets left they are looking to close out the season strong. They all have qualified for the upcoming NYSAISAA Championship held at Icahn Stadium on May 25th.
    Varsity Tennis The wondrous journey of the Hewitt Hawks varsity Tennis Team has finally come to a close for the 2016 season. A hairs-breadth loss to Chapin in the quarterfinals of the AAIS tournament on Monday was disappointing but yet further proof that hard work and dedication pays dividends. Great team solidarity and competitive grit was gracefully balanced with poise and equanimity by all members of the team this season and the Hawks are already looking forward to a championship 2017 season. Go Hawks!
    Varsity Crew As the season comes to a close the girls are preparing for their last competition. The Scholastic Rowing League Championship today will be their last test in the 8+ and the 4+. The girls have made marvelous improvements throughout the season and are looking forward to continuing their rowing over the summer and next year. 
    7th and 8th Track & Fieldathletes ended the season strong, maximizing every potential they had. They settled for nothing less but the best. During last week's championship, they ran with confidence and represented The Hewitt track and field team by showing their girl power.
    5th & 6th grade Track & Field athletes wrapped up their great season this week. The athletes worked hard and had great progress in their running skills.

  • HAWKS WEEKLY UPDATE: Week of May 9

    Varsity Badminton is wrapping up regular season play this week. They will be starting league play offs next week.
    Varsity Track & Field athletes have been working hard and are excited for the AAIS Championship next Friday, May 20th, at Icahn Stadium.
    Varsity Tennis got direct placement in the quarterfinals of the AAIS championship tournament. Go Hawks! 
    Varsity Crew Coming off of a successful outing at the Riverdale/RNY/Hewitt scrimmage this past weekend, the ladies are training hard for the Scholastic Championship. We have broken it back down to the basics this week during our drills to get the athletes channeling their focus back into rowing as one unit, in their lineups. The athletes are improving day by day and we are seeing increasing boat speed with the added stability that the drilling has brought us. Scholastic Championships is right around the corner and the athletes are excited for the competition.
    7th and 8th Track & Field runners are demonstrating Hewitt Girl Power in every practice and meet. They are maximizing every potential they have. They are strong, confident, and ready to take on any challenge during the meet.
    7th & 8th Badminton wrapped up their season this week playing Sacred Heart. The team had a great season involving great progress in their tactical and technical badminton skills.
    5th & 6th grade Track & Field athletes are excited for the third track meet on Thursday, May 19th at Riverbank State Park. Go Hawks!

  • HAWKS WEEKLY UPDATE: Week of May 2

    Varsity Badmintonteam continues to make strides towards the play-offs.  Come support the seniors and the entire team for their last home match on Friday May 13th at 5:00 against Marymount at Lenox.  Go Hawks!
    Varsity Track & Field team is making tremendous strides on the track and in field events each week garnering personal best performances. Last week's meet was highlighted by a NYSAIS qualifying performance by junior co-captain Emily D. ‘17 in the 1500 meters.
    Varsity Tennis is balancing their dedication to academics and commitment to their team with grace and ease. The inclement weather has thwarted our tennis ambitions this week but we were ready for our match on Friday against Berkeley Carroll. The Hawks finsihed the week with a victory. Go Hawks!
    Varsity Crew participated in its first regatta of the season last Sunday at the Long Island Junior Championship. The Novice 8 improved on their performance from last years LIJ Championship coming in 4th in their heat. The Varsity 4 battled through adversity but finished the race strong. The team is training hard for a home scrimmage this Sunday and the final competition of the year on May 18th.
    7th and 8th Track & Field athletes maximized every potential they had showing their girl power in 4x400 meter run. Ryan P. ‘21 came in 1st place in the 800 and 2nd place in the 400 meter run.
    7th & 8th Badminton team is very excited for their upcoming match against Sacred Heart.  In practice they continue to work hard on agility and speed while also playing doubles matches.

Athletics Program

The athletic program at Hewitt is comprehensive. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, students participate in intramural sports clubs where they sharpen fundamental skills and grow accustomed to the commitment involved in being part of a team. Starting in grade five, students have the option of competing inter-scholastically in Cross-Country, Basketball, and Track and Field. In grade seven, students may also compete in Volleyball and Soccer.

Hewitt Partners with IMG

Athletics and fitness play an essential role in the Hewitt experience. To that end, our school has partnered with the global sports media conglomerate IMG, the first high school to do so in the country. IMG Academy‘s coaches and instructors will provide professional support and consulting for our athletics program, coaches, and teachers. As well, the Academy will host two Hewitt teams in spring training camps at their Florida facility. This partnership, consistent with our Strategic Plan, emphasizes Hewitt’s commitment to a more holistic approach to girls’ athletics and wellness; team sports still form the framework of the program, but priority is also given to physical development, mental toughness, strategy, communication, and sustainability so our students may make exercise and wellness an integral part of their lives beyond school.
