Pursuing Interests and Passions

With offerings that focus on creative expression, social activism, student government, and STEAM, Hewitt's clubs and extracurriculars offer a variety of opportunities for girls to pursue their interests and passions. With the support of a faculty advisor, students spend time with other girls around a shared interest or commitment as they cultivate their leadership skills and collaborative abilities. Some clubs change annually depending on student interest, allowing for an ever-expanding roster of possibilities.

In Middle School

Middle school clubs are organized into 5th/6th and 7th/8th groupings. With the support of a middle school advisor, students have an opportunity to spend time with other girls around a shared interest or commitment. Students who want to make a commitment to learning about community leadership serve on Student Council in a range of roles, some elected and some by application.

Middle school club offerings include:

  • Student Council
  • Sustainability and Community Activism Committee

In addition to clubs, middle school students participate in our electives program, which features courses that introduce girls to new projects and opportunities beyond the regular curriculum. Recent elective options have included:

  • Chamber Music Ensemble
  • Current Events
  • Enterprising Writers and Designers (arts and literary magazine)
  • Geography Bee
  • Hewitt Robotics
  • Library Leaders and Readers
  • Math Olympiad
  • Open Studio Art
  • Student Voice Action Research

In Upper School

All upper school clubs are student-led with the support of a faculty advisor, and all publications have a full student editorial staff. Advisors work with students to plan their time effectively and guide students in curating meaningful and substantive engagement with the things that matter to them. Thus, our co-curricular programs emphasize the depth of a commitment over time as opposed to a superficial list of activities.
