In Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, technology - in the form of computers, laptops, labs, A/V equipment, educational aids and networks - is more than just a presence. Technology is an integral part of the curriculum. From illustrating a Kindergarten alphabet book with computer-created art, to producing the Hewitt Times with the latest design and production tools, we're proud to wear the 21st Century mantle of "laptop school." Technology at Hewitt isn't just instruction - it's integration and innovation.
New labs for fresh minds
This past summer, the Lower and Middle Schools' Computer Lab had all new wireless technology and computers installed. Connected to Hewitt's extensive network, this lab further enables all students, staff and faculty to utilize email and a T-1 line for internet access. At the same time, most classrooms in the Upper and Middle Schools were completely technologically rebuilt: 20 network jacks for laptops to access the internet, a multimedia computer and LCD projector, a VCR, as well as an ELMO that projects images from either transparency or paper. Each room also has a SoftBoard so that notes can be saved or printed out.
A laptop for every lap
By the time Hewitt young women reach the Upper School, they have already mastered the basics of computers, networks and the internet. They are ready for their own laptops. Every Upper School student has a laptop - the Dell Latitude C400 in most cases. The laptop is used for everything from creating presentations for humanities classes; to generating dynamic applications with Geometry Sketchpad in math; to creating, editing and producing required term papers.
