General Information

  • K-12 all girls
  • 498 students [180-LS, 153-MS, 165-US] in 2006 - 2007 school year
  • In the last ten years, 100% of graduates have attended a college or university.
  • Students in 2005 matriculated to colleges/universities including: Bates College, Boston University, Colgate University, Dartmouth University, George Washington University, Hamilton College, Harvard University, Syracuse University, University of Michigan, and University of Richmond.
  • There are 1,500 alumnae of record.

Faculty

  • 72 full-time faculty.
  • 85% of faculty members have advanced degrees.

Curriculum

  • AP courses offered in US History, Physics, English, Calculus, European History, Biology, French and Latin.
  • Honors courses offered in Latin, Spanish, Chemistry, Precalculus, French, and English.
  • French and Spanish language instruction begins in Kindergarten.

Finance

  • FY 2007 operating budget is $16,401,000.
  • Current endowment has a market value of $9,500,000.
  • The physical plant has a value of $25,560,000 (replacement cost).
  • Long Term IDA Bond $12,750,000.
  • Annual giving in 2005/2006 was $1,000,000.

   Comprehensive Tuition and Fees for 2005-2006 (all inclusive)

  • $28,000 for grades K-3
  • $29,100 for grades 4-12

Financial Aid

  • Financial Aid budget is $1,413,500.
  • 70 students or 14.4% receive financial aid.

Honors/Enrichments

  • Students have been accepted at both the Science Honors Program at Columbia University and the Rockefeller University Science Outreach Program.
  • Student regional award winners in the Scholastic Writing Awards.
  • Venturer and Perspicacity are annual award winners in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association literary competition.
  • Model UN recognition awards.
  • Future Problem Solving team was a state champion in 2003-2004.

Athletics

  • Eight varsity teams in volleyball, basketball, cross country, swim, soccer, tennis, badminton and track & field.
  • Junior varsity team in volleyball and basketball.
  • Grade 7/8 teams in volleyball, basketball and soccer.
  • Middle school teams in swim and track & field (grades 6-8).
  • Grade 5/6 sports clubs in volleyball, basketball, lacrosse and badminton.
  • Grade 4 sports clubs in volleyball, basketball, lacrosse and badminton.

Technology

  • State of the art Macintosh Digital Art Lab
  • Full T-1 line that connects Hewitt to the internet.
  • An additional T-1 line for Intranet use.
  • LAN (local area network) which links students, faculty and administration.
  • Large screen monitors and/or LCD projectors connected to computers, DVD players and ELMOs in the upper and middle school classrooms.
  • 325 computers throughout the schools located in classrooms, mobile laptop carts, labs and the upper school library. 63 teachers and administrators have laptop computers provided by the school.
  • Of the 325 computers, 150 are student owned laptops.
  • One desktop computer in each lower school classroom.
  • Digital cameras, digital video cameras and scanners for student and faculty use.
  • Library connected to electronic catalogue (Winnebago) for library searches available from any internet connected computer.
  • Computer instruction begins in the lower school and continues through middle and upper school.
  • Technology integrated into curriculum .
  • Secure wireless infrastructure in all Hewitt buildings.
  • 1:1 laptop program for students in the upper school.
  • SMART boards and SMART carts with interactive white board display systems connected to computers.
  • Fiber-Optic network backbone

Clubs

  • Student Council in Upper, Middle and Lower School.
  • Publications - Venturer, Hewitt Times, Perspicacity, Clio, Sophia and The Argosy (yearbook) in the Upper School and The Enterprise in the Middle School.
  • 20 clubs including Community Service, SADD, Model UN, Earth Committee, Amnesty International, Art Club, Future Problem Solvers Club, Science Olympiad, Women's Issues Club, Creative Writing Club and Ancient Cultures Club.
