It is our honor to announce that Claudia Chan ’93 will deliver The Hewitt School’s 2022 Commencement address. Ms. Chan is a recognized author, professional mentor, leadership expert, entrepreneur, and mother dedicated to activating individuals and organizations to create more equitable and thriving workplaces, communities, and families. Her address will fit into the larger theme of the event—home—by focusing on how to form a sense of home and lead authentically in a community.
The Commencement Exercises of the Class of 2022 will honor our home at Hewitt—the one that has supported us and the one that we have helped to create—and display the strong and meaningful connections we have formed across the community. The Class of 2022 will carry our empathic understanding of community-based leadership beyond Hewitt in our next ventures.
Ms. Chan will contribute to our theme because of her chosen profession and her first-hand experience of the home students find at Hewitt. A graduate of The Hewitt School’s Class of 1993, she has dedicated her career to encouraging others to achieve their potential as productive leaders. As the CEO of SHE GLOBL and founder of the celebrated leadership conference SHE Summit, Ms. Chan works to empower businesses and industries to fuel movements in social topics and issues most personal to them. In her New York Times celebrated book This is How We Rise, she shares key lessons learned from her personal and professional experiences and presents a collection of foundational habits and behaviors that help readers to solidify their purpose, vision, and pathway to become a change-maker. Ms. Chan believes and embodies the ideal that social change can only be achieved through a collaborative effort.
The Class of 2022 admires Ms. Chan for many reasons, but first and foremost because of her dedication to authentic, productive leadership. We look forward to her Commencement address as our graduating class continues to reflect on our home at Hewitt and our journey beyond high school.
We are thrilled to welcome back to Hewitt Ms. Chan and her experience as a mother, advocate, mentor, and of course alumna.
