Hewitt News

On June 3, 2025, our Board of Trustees celebrated Dr. Tara Christie Kinsey's 10th and final year of exceptional leadership at Hewitt. During the event, we unveiled her portrait, painted by artist Grace DeVito, which is now displayed alongside those of our other heads of school in Gregory Hall.

Former Board Chair Juan Sabater P’13 P’19 P’26 spoke in Dr. Kinsey’s honor, saying:

“It is a privilege for me to be with you for the unveiling of Tara’s portrait, a tradition dating back to Hewitt’s founder, Caroline Hewitt. Since her appointment in July 2015, Tara has led with faith, courage, and an unwavering commitment to Hewitt’s mission of inspiring girls and young women to become game changers and ethical leaders. Under her stewardship, Hewitt has enhanced its reputation as a thought leader in girls’ education. Tara, thank you for your vision, your heart, and your leadership. You have left an indelible and profound mark, and we wish you every success as you continue your journey in education.”

Former Trustee Diane Spilker P’18 and her husband, Marc, also shared their heartfelt gratitude:

“We thank Tara for her extraordinary leadership at Hewitt. Her unwavering focus on the girls, her deep commitment to building a connected and engaged community, and her clear vision for what education can and should be have left a lasting impact. Under Tara's guidance, Hewitt has not only thrived - it has transformed lives. Tara has set a new standard for what it means to lead a school with integrity, courage, and purpose.”

Two members of the Class of 2025 spoke on behalf of the senior class and the student body:

“When we envision a great leader, we think of Dr. Kinsey. Throughout your time at Hewitt, you didn’t just learn our names; instead you truly got to know each and every one of us. Under your leadership, Hewitt flourished - not only in size but in heart, ambition, and spirit.

Thanks to your vision, this year’s graduating class stands proudly as the largest in Hewitt’s 105-year history - a testament to how far we’ve come and how boldly you’ve guided us forward. You navigated us through a pandemic with remarkable strength, expanded our campus with Winslow Hall, and championed programs that ignited passions we’ll carry long after leaving Hewitt - be it in robotics, theater, strings, or research opportunities.

Your establishment of the Office of Equity and Community Life was a promise that every student at Hewitt matters. You taught us what it means to lead with empathy and authenticity. Your legacy lives on not only in this portrait but in each of us. Thank you, Dr. Kinsey, for shaping who we are and who we aspire to be.”

Since joining Hewitt in 2015, Dr. Tara Christie Kinsey has truly embodied the spirit of Caroline Hewitt, ensuring that every member of our community feels valued and connected. Her commitment to fostering an outstanding educational environment has left a lasting impact on our school, and we are immensely grateful for the profound influence she has had on our students, faculty, and the entire Hewitt community.

Thank you, Dr. Kinsey, for your decade of service and leadership at The Hewitt School!
