Introducing Hewitt’s New Venturer Program
Hewitt News

The Hewitt School is proud to announce the launch of the Venturer Program, an innovative K-12 educational initiative offering students an opportunity to engage in global travel, cultural exchanges, community service, and language immersion.

Alia Carponter-Walker, Hewitt’s director of institutional equity and global partnerships shares, "The Venturer Program is centered around cultivating independent thinkers who are capable of making meaningful contributions locally and globally. Combining a rigorous academic curriculum with immersive learning experiences beyond our campus, the Venturer Program is designed to inspire informed, compassionate leaders who are prepared to address the challenges of the future."

K-6 Program Highlights: Foundations of Global Citizenship

  • Cultural Exploration: Students will study local neighborhoods like Harlem and Chinatown, learning about these communities’ rich histories and cultural contributions through art, music, and literature.
  • Service Learning Projects: As they engage with local community issues such as food insecurity and affordable housing, students will develop their civic responsibility and empathy.
  • Language Learning: Initiatives like pen pal exchanges with schools in French and Spanish-speaking countries will promote international friendships and discussions on literature and leadership.

Grades 7-12: Immersive International Experiences

  • Global Learning: Students participate in immersive travel programs across countries such as South Africa, Italy, Peru, and England, enhancing their understanding of global issues while applying their classroom knowledge to real-world contexts.
  • Collaborative Projects: Inquiry-based projects focused on cultural competence, leadership, language learning, and community well-being will reinforce critical thinking and teamwork skills and empower students to drive positive change locally and globally.

Ahead of the official launch of Hewitt’s Venturer Program, our beloved mascot, Harriet the Hawk, traveled to a few of the countries Hewitt students may soon explore. Scroll through the gallery below for highlights from Harriet’s global adventures!
