Hewitt’s 2023 winter athletics season was an exciting and eventful season for the Hawks! This winter has seen some incredible performances from our athletes - from intense matches on the court to thrilling races on the track, and our squash, indoor track and field, and basketball teams had many opportunities to showcase their skills and compete against tough opponents. Whether running, jumping, shooting hoops, or hitting the squash ball, each team had unique challenges and triumphs throughout the season. With hard work, dedication, and perseverance, these upper school athletes have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with both on and off the field. Let's take a look back at the highlights of the winter athletics season and celebrate the accomplishments of these talented young athletes.
 
Hewitt Varsity Squash
The Hawks varsity squash team had an impressive season and displayed their potential as a young and talented squad. They started with some tough losses but showed remarkable resilience, bouncing back with a string of victories against Convent of the Sacred Heart and Chapin. Throughout the season, our players improved their  skills and strategies, focusing on teamwork and communication. The team's perseverance paid off as they earned a spot in the first round of the Athletic Association of Independent Schools (AAIS) playoff tournament, a testament to their growth and development throughout the season. Though their playoff run ended sooner than they would have liked, their performance was admirable, with the young team showcasing their promise and potential. With a bright future ahead, the varsity squash team is one to watch out for in the coming seasons!

Hewitt Varsity Indoor Track and Field
What a season it has been for the Hawks indoor track and field team! This squad has shown incredible talent and determination throughout the entire season, qualifying 13 athletes for the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) championships. In addition, one eleventh grade Hawk earned a spot at the prestigious New York State Federations track meet! Leading the charge for this squad is an exceptional junior who has competed fiercely all season long. She has put up some impressive times in the 1000 meters, ranking her 21st in New York State and an outstanding 53rd nationally. We can't wait to see what this team has in store for next season!

Hewitt Varsity Basketball 
The Hawks varsity basketball season was filled with highs and lows for the team. They faced some of the league's toughest opponents, making it challenging to secure wins. However, the team persisted and kept working hard, coming  together to play with more unity and determination by the end of the season. This led to a renewed sense of optimism for the team's future. While the season may have been tough, these athletes learned valuable lessons they can carry to future seasons and build upon for future seasons.

Hewitt Junior Varsity Basketball
The Hawks J.V. basketball team had a challenging season facing tough opponents. Despite these difficulties, the team came together and showed significant improvement as a young squad. They worked hard to develop their skills and strategies, which paid off as they began to play better as a team toward the end of the season. It was clear that they had grown as athletes, both individually and collectively. We look forward to seeing how they progress in the future, and we're excited to see these athletes on the court again next season.
