Brava to the cast and crew of this year’s middle and upper school musical, the Pilot Production of Legally Blonde The Musical Jr.! Based on the 2001 box office hit Legally Blonde, the musical, written by Heather Hach with music and lyrics by Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, follows Elle Woods as she embarks on a journey of growth and self discovery, overcoming stereotypes and forging a path toward leadership by being true to herself.
This pilot production was a new adaptation of the original script and libretto, designed specifically for The Hewitt School’s talented students. We are honored to have been involved in the creation of this production alongside the show’s original writers, who met with the cast and crew during rehearsal to share stories about the origins of the Broadway show and offer insight into the characters.
When asked about her experience working with the lyricist and composer, the tenth grade actor who played Elle Woods commented, “It was a new experience for me to meet the people who wrote the story as I was making my own rendition of Elle Woods. When it came to working with the composer and lyricist, they were very flexible and also open to making new changes that accommodated [my] version of Elle.”
Hewitt’s production of Legally Blonde The Musical Jr. provided students with a unique opportunity to work directly with the show’s creators on a new piece of theater, and we are grateful to the cast, crew, and creative team involved in bringing this incredible experience to the Hewitt stage!
