Hewitt’s middle and upper school winter musical, Mean Girls: High School Version, was an unforgettable production filled with electrifying dance routines, powerhouse vocals, and a compelling story full of relatable characters. The student cast and crew were excited to tell the story of Cady Heron, Regina George, and The Plastics, and they wowed audiences at every performance. Directed by Lee Collins and choreographed by Linda van Kesteren, Mean Girls: High School Version was a true tour de force showcasing Hewitt’s phenomenal drama department.
At Hewitt, we aim to harness the power of theater by embracing productions that provoke critical thinking. Through a show like Mean Girls — a musical about the very real and relatable challenges of being a teenage girl — Hewitt students had the opportunity to share their incredible talents on stage and behind the scenes, work alongside theater professionals, and engage our school community in art that encourages meaningful conversations about fitting in, being kind, spreading rumors, and the impact of our words and actions.
We are grateful to Mean Girls lyricist Nell Benjamin for leading the cast and crew, along with middle and upper school students, in thoughtful discussions about the show’s themes of power, popularity, and the choices we all face between showing kindness or being mean.
