A Holistic Approach to Wellness
At Hewitt, the emotional and physical wellbeing of girls stands at the heart of our program. Our athletics program fosters a holistic approach to wellness that helps our girls and young women develop their academic, physical, emotional, ethical, and social skills.
A Fit and active lifestyle
Starting in lower school, our physical education programs teach girls how to embrace a fit and active lifestyle. By the time they reach upper school, our students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of health and wellness programming in addition to our athletics offerings.
As early as kindergarten, Hewitt students embrace the joy of movement while developing important skills related to athletics, including:
- Spatial awareness and balance
- Hand-eye coordination
- Cooperation and collaboration
We provide our students with a range of activities that promote a lifelong commitment to physical health, including elective offerings in:
- Yoga and Pilates
- Dance
- Strength and Conditioning
To ensure our young women have all the tools they need to become committed to self-care and a healthy lifestyle, Hewitt offers seminar classes in:
- Nutrition
- Sleep
- Stress Management
Concussion Management
The Hewitt School recognizes that concussions and head injuries are commonly reported injuries in children and adolescents who participate in sports and recreational activity and that these injuries can have serious consequences if not managed carefully. Hewitt's Concussion Management Policy outlines how we support the proper evaluation and management of head injuries.
For more information on concussions, Hewitt's concussion management team encourages families to review the following resources:
- Concussions: The Invisible Injury via the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA)
- A Fact Sheet for Parents via the CDC's HEADS UP program
- A Fact Sheet for Athletes via the CDC's HEADS UP program
